There’s a moment before every Carnival when the world that we know slows down. When the road still feels far away, but your body and mind knows it’s coming. The music gets louder, the island starts to hum, and something inside you begins to wake up.
That’s where the inspiration came from.
I didn’t just want to attend Tobago Carnival — I wanted to document what it feels like to prepare for it. Not just the glitter and feathers, but the late-night doubts, the early morning workouts, the days when discipline felt like a whisper and faith felt like the only thing holding it all together.
That’s how the Road to the Road series was born — a 80-day storytelling project that became so much more than I expected.
🌴 What “Road to the Road” Really Meant
When I started filming, I thought it would be a wellness series — a countdown to Carnival. But very quickly, it turned into a story about transformation.
Each video became a snapshot of real life for my community:
Finding confidence again after feeling unseen.
Supporting local designers, makeup artists, and small businesses that make Tobago Carnival magic.
Call to action for your own personal growth and development outside of the Carnival season
Through it all, I realized something — Carnival isn’t just one weekend. It’s the reflection of every choice, every sacrifice, every moment you decide to keep showing up.
📊 The Impact and the Reach
The Road to the Road series quickly gained momentum, reaching over 100,000 views in its first month and sparking conversations across the Caribbean diaspora. People didn’t just watch — they connected.
Messages came from viewers saying things like:
“You made me proud to be Tobagonian.”
“I’ve never been to Carnival, but now I want to go.”
“This made me start working out again.”
Those messages reminded me why storytelling matters. Tobago deserves to be seen — not just for its beaches, but for its people.
✨ Lessons Learned Along the Way
When I look back at the series, there are a few lessons that stand out:
Authenticity travels further than perfection. Some of the best-performing clips weren’t the polished ones — they were the real, unfiltered moments.
Consistency is the real secret. Showing up every week built a connection that algorithms alone can’t replicate.
Community is everything. Tobago Carnival is a collective effort — from the tailors to the DJs, from the masqueraders to the media. Everyone adds to the story.
The next time I produce this series, I want to go deeper — more interviews, more behind-the-scenes, more collaboration with local creatives. Tobago deserves a full documentary moment, and I’m ready to make that happen.
🛤️ What’s Next After the Road
The first season of Road to the Road may be complete, but the journey isn’t over.
I’m using this momentum to evolve into new kinds of storytelling — blending lifestyle, culture, and creativity. The goal for Road to the Road is to take this series regional. From Trinidad to Grenada and Barbados, I'll be telling the stories of other carnivals across the Caribbean and the US where I am connected to the rhythm, love and culture.
